Man, those would have been really cheap at one time. If you have any old copies of Fangoria (or Gorezone, etc.) laying around check out some of the adds for the tapes in the back of them - crazy prices.

Seems to me the first release of "Henry" on VHS was over $100. Horror fans these days have it easy (at least on the wallet), but I wouldn't trade the stuff I grew up with for the current crop for any price cut.

I will never forget when I saw Pulp Fiction (widescreen) on VHS in Media Play listed as a special "pre-release." I forget when the actual release date was supposed to be, but they were selling these for $99, and while I was in there, some asshole actually went for it. A few weeks later, I picked one up for $14.99

This reminds me of back in the good old days when stores like Best Buy or Sam Goody actually had a MEGA-wide variety of genre VHS... and even MORE DVDs to choose from when the format was just starting to really boom. They had Troma stuff, SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE stuff, Hammer, etc... Now, they usually have one or two shitty compilation discs, a few copies of whatever remake just came out, and, like, one copy of JENNIFER'S BODY and some random SAW sequel. Sad. :( And all these businesses really have to wonder why it is online retailers like Amazon and others are eating their lunch?

I had rented Gladiator from a video store when it first hit VHS. Someone stole it from my house during a get together and the video store made me pay for the cost of the VHS, which was $69.99. Ridiculous.
